Seagull senior pitches complete game in 7-1 win

EVERETT – Senior pitcher John Ogden went the distance for the Everett Seagulls as they handled Meadowdale 7-1 in the Wesco South opener for both teams Tuesday at Everett Memorial Stadium.

Entering the seventh inning, Ogden had surrendered only one hit to Mariner, and with a seven-run lead, coach Ron Burdett decided to let him finish the game.

“He’s a gritty kid,” Burdett said after the victory. “He had all of his pitches working tonight.”

Although he gave up a seventh-inning home run to Mariner senior Drew Dittamore, Ogden got the victory, striking out nine batters.

“I wish all of my pitchers had his tenacity, he never gives up,” added Burdett. “He’s a real go-getter.”

Although Ogden is a senior, Everett had key contributions from many of it’s underclassman. Sophomores Brice Harrick and Kyle Wells were each 2-for-3 and Wells contributed two RBI.

“We’re a pretty young team this year, and we are going to battle all the way until the end,” Burdett said.
