The Seahawks made a roster move Tuesday, claiming tight end Brett Brackett off waivers from Tennessee, and waiving tight end RaShaun Allen, who they had promoted off their practice squad last week with injuries piling up at the position.
Brackett, who is listed as 6-5, 246, went undrafted out of Penn State in 2011 and has spent time with six different teams, primarily on practice squads. He appeared in two games for the Titans this season before being waived on Monday.
Seattle’s starting tight end Zach Miller is still recovering from ankle surgery, and Carroll said Monday that Miller is still a ways out in his rehabilitation. His backup, Luke Willson, missed last week’s game, meaning a start for Cooper Helfet, who had a 19-yard touchdown catch. Willson is expected back in practice this week, Carroll said.
In addition to that move, the Seahawks also added linebacker L.J. Fort to their practice squad. No corresponding move had to be made, because the Seahawks had two open spots on the practice squad after promoting Allen and Steven Terrell last week without making any additions. Fort, undrafted out of Northern Iowa in 2012, spent his first two seasons with Cleveland and spent time in Denver this year. He has 20 career tackles, 1 sack and 1 interception, all in 2012.
Also, cornerback Jeremy Lane was designated as returning to practice this week, as expected. That starts a three week clock for Lane, who is currently on injured reserve/designated to return, to either be added to the 53-man roster or placed on season-ending injured reserve. Carroll said Monday that Lane will practice this week and is on track to return as soon as he is eligible, which would be the Nov. 9 game against the New York Giants.
