Seahawks agree to terms with Lutiu, Ruud and Lewis

The Seahawks announced Friday that they have agreed to terms with linebacker Barrett Ruud, guard Deuce Lutui and cornerback Roy Lewis. All three will sign one-year deals.

Ruud, 28, started nine games for Tennessee last season before ending the season on injured reserve. A second-round pick in 2005, Ruud spent his first six season in Tampa Bay. Ruud will be a candidate to start at middle linebacker for Seattle with David Hawthorne leaving in free agency, though the Seahawks could also move K.J. Wright to middle linebacker, or look to add someone in the draft. The Seahawks should have good background knowledge on Ruud because their defensive coordinator, Gus Bradley, spent three seasons coaching in Tampa Bay while Ruud was there.

Lutui, who played for Pete Carroll at USC, joins the Seahawks after a disappointing 2011. A starter for most of his career in Arizona, Lutui agreed to a deal with Cincinnati last offseason, but failed his physical because he was overweight, and ended up back in Arizona in a backup role. If healthy and in shape, Lutui could battle for a starting job at left guard, and at the very least will give Seattle more depth up front.

Lewis, who has spent his past three seasons in Seattle, saw significant playing time on defense last year in nickel and dime packages, and is also a special teams stalwart. A University of Washington product, Lewis came into the league in 2008 as an undrafted free agent with Pittsburgh.
