A Seattle Seahawks team that played in a rare playoff game earlier this month continues to reap the rewards of success.
A fifth player has been added to next weekend’s Pro Bowl, giving the Seahawks their most participants since 1987.
Running back Shaun Alexander was added to the roster Tuesday, after Deuce McAllister of the New Orleans Saints backed out. Alexander is one of five Seahawks headed to Hawaii, joining Walter Jones, Alex Bannister and alternates Steve Hutchinson and Matt Hasselbeck. Only Jones has been to the Pro Bowl before.
The Seahawks had five players – four starters – at the 1987 Pro Bowl: Kenny Easley, Steve Largent, Curt Warner, Fredd Young and reserve defensive end Jacob Green.
All of this year’s Seahawks Pro Bowlers are offensive players, although Bannister, a wide receiver, was chosen as a special-teams player.
Alexander, 26, ran for a career-high 1,435 yards in his fourth NFL season. He ranked fourth in the NFC in rushing and third in touchdowns (16).
He joins Curt Warner, John L. Williams and Chris Warren as Seahawks running backs who have been to the Pro Bowl.
