Seahawks an option for Hackett

The agent for free-agent wide receiver D.J. Hackett said his client returning to the Seattle Seahawks remains an option, depending on what happens in free agency.

Hackett was supposed to be of interest to several teams when free agency began Friday, but so far that has not transpired, due in large part to Hackett’s injuries last season, when he played six games.

Kevin Robinson, Hackett’s Denver-based agent, was quoted earlier this week saying that Tampa Bay and Washington initially showed an interest in Hackett, but that he has not heard back from either team.

Buffalo reportedly has an interest in Hackett if the Bills’ talks with Bryant Johnson go nowhere. But Hackett has not visited any team and is waiting for more teams to express interest.

With Hackett falling to a second-tier and perhaps third-tier free agent, Robinson said Hackett could return to Seattle if things don’t work out elsewhere.

“D.J. has some interest from some teams,” Robinson said, “but the Seahawks are definitely one option.”

The sides met at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis two weeks ago and agreed to allow Hackett to establish his value on the open market. They have not had discussions since then.

Seahawks general manager Tim Ruskell said last week that the team would like to have Hackett back, but if they lose him to another team, they are comfortable that either Courtney Taylor, Logan Payne or Ben Obomanu will develop into a replacement.

What the Seahawks will not do is overpay for a player who played only 18 quarters last season because of a high-ankle sprain suffered in the first game of the season and re-aggravated later in the season.

One option is for Hackett to sign a one-year contract with Seattle to prove that he can stay healthy and be a productive receiver.

Duckett officially a Seahawk: The Seahawks officially announced they signed running back T.J. Duckett to a contract. Financial terms of the deal were not available.

Duckett played for Detroit last season, signing with the Lions after making a free-agent visit to Seattle. Duckett is familiar with Ruskell from their days together in Atlanta, which selected Duckett with the 18th pick in the 2002 draft.
