Training camp resumed Monday after Saturday’s preseason win in San Diego, which mean this blog is back after enjoying a weekend off.
A few new missing bodies today, including running backs Julius Jones and T.J. Duckett, both of whom were just getting rest because of “bumps and bruises” Seahawks coach Jim Mora said.
Kicker Olindo Mare was also out with a sore knee, something that started during warmups for the game Saturday night. Mora said Mare and Brandon Coutu were going to split the kicking duties in the game, but instead Coutu handled all of it with Mare sitting out.
Walter Jones was back for today’s practice, but left early with what looked like his back stiffening up. Mora said he hadn’t heard an update on Jones when he met with the media after practice. When Jones was on the field, we saw another look to the offensive line, with Jones at left tackle, Rob Sims at left guard, Max Unger at center, Sean Locklear at right guard, and Ray Willis at right tackle. Unger hasn’t passed Chris Spencer on the depth chart, but rather Spencer was still limited because of his ankle injury.
Locklear potentially playing guard is part of the puzzle offensive coordinator Greg Knapp and line coach Mike Solari are trying to put together. Mora, only somewhat jokingly, said the team could wait until as long as the Wednesday before the season opener to decide on the best five pieces to that puzzle.
Guards Cory Withrow and Grey Ruegamer continued to be out, as was cornerback Marcus Trufant, defensive end Lawrence Jackson, and defensive tackle Kevin Brown.
