In case you missed it when the news came out late last night, two more Seahawks are headed to Hawaii for this weekend’s Pro Bowl.
Cornerback Brandon Browner will go in place of injured San Francisco corner Carlos Rogers and safety Kam Chancellor in place of of injured 49er and former Husky Dashon Goldson. Both were first alternates when the original Pro Bowl teams were announced last month.
They’ll be joining Earl Thomas, the starting free safety, and fullback Michael Robinson, who was added as an injury replacement last week, giving Seattle four Pro Bowlers, its most since sending six to Hawaii in 2007.
Browner was one of Seattle’s most pleasant surprises this season. After spending four seasons in the Canadian Football League, he was given a chance to make the Seahawks roster in training camp. Not only did the 6-foot-4 Browner make the team, he played well enough to earn a starting job. And after struggling early in the season, he steadily improved and finished the year with six interceptions, the second most in the NFL, and a league-high 29 passes defended.
Chancellor, a fifth-round pick in 2010, took over the starting strong safety job in 2011and with Thomas formed one of the league’s best
young safety duos (we don’t need the qualifier young there anymore, do we?). Chancellor provided a physical presence over the middle, but also showed impressive ball skills, picking off four passes. His 94 tackles ranked second on the team.
