For the second week in a row, the Seahawks’ defense smothered an opponent in a lopsided win, and for the second week in a row, a member of Seattle’s defense was rewarded for the part he played in that effort.
Cornerback Richard Sherman, who intercepted 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick twice in Seattle’s 19-3 win on Thanksgiving, was named NFC defensive player of the week one week after safety Kam Chancellor earned that honor for his play against Arizona. This is the fourth time in his career that Sherman has earned DPOW honors, and he’s the only player in the NFL to be named defensive player of the week in each of the past three seasons.
Sherman and Chancellor’s back-to-back honors make the Seahawks the second team, along with Miami (Louis Delmas and Brent Grimes) to have consecutive DPOW winners this season.
