Seahawks’ Flynn making most of shot as No. 1 QB

Terrell Owens was the center of attention Wednesday, but Matt Flynn had perhaps the most important performance of the day.

A day after Pete Carroll announced that Flynn would start Saturday’s preseason opener and get the No. 1 reps this week in practice, Flynn had perhaps his best practice of the season as he looks to take the reins in Seattle’s three-man quarterback competition.

“I’m excited about it. It’s not something that I’m nervous about, that I think too much about,” Flynn said. “I’m excited I get the opportunity. This is what I’ve been looking for and waiting for. It’s going to be good to be able to get these reps the next couple of days in practice, get in a rhythm. Even today, after the offense got going, we played well today, we got in a rhythm, we were in synch with each other. Hopefully that continues and continues on Saturday.”

Flynn was impressive Wednesday, and as he mentioned, will benefit from extended time with the No. 1 offense, but he does not look at the quarterback job as his to lose now.

“No, not at all,” he said. “I look at this as an opportunity to show that I can lead this offense and be successful and move the ball and hopefully put up some points… It’s a good feeling, but I know that this thing is far from over, so I’ve got to go out there and perform and show that I belong out there.”
