RENTON — The Seattle Seahawks delivered some good news on the injury front Wednesday.
Coach Mike Holmgren said that defensive end Patrick Kerney underwent successful shoulder surgery and is likely to be back this season. Surgeons determined that Kerney did not re-tear his labrum, meaning he could be back at some point.
Holmgren did not have a specific timetable for Kerney’s return, but he said earlier this week that there was a chance the defensive end could be out as little as two weeks.
“It’s the best news we could get,” Holmgren said of Kerney’s surgery.
The other news concerned quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, who is expected to practice with the scout team Wednesday afternoon. Holmgren said that Hasselbeck won’t play in Sunday’s game against Miami, but the quarterback could return to action in the Arizona game a week later.
“Right now, that’s my plan,” Holmgren said of Hasselbeck playing in the Arizona game.
Middle linebacker Lofa Tatupu and fullback Leonard Weaver are supposed to be back from injuries this week, while wide receiver Deion Branch will get his injured heel tested Wednesday. Holmgren said there is a chance Branch could get cleared to start practicing this week.
