RENTON — Now that the playoffs are here, the league is switching to a tweaked overtime format that was agreed upon in the offseason. Instead of the usual sudden-death format, teams can now no longer win the game with a field goal on their first possession. If the team that starts with the ball
scores a touchdown, the game is over, but if that team elects to kick a field goal, the other team will get the ball with a chance to tie the game to keep it going, or score a touchdown for a win.
“We talked about that when the rule first was invoked and all that and now it’s real,” Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said. “… There’s a lot of things that come up here in terms of decision-making that are going to challenge all the coaching staffs around and we’re going through it. We’re working through it because we want to make sure we’re very clear about what we’re doing and how we would approach it.”
Seahawks sign two off practice squad
Seattle signed cornerback Josh Pinkard and guard Lemuel Jeanpierre off the practice squad Friday. Those two fill the roster spots that opened earlier in the week when guard Chester Pitts (concussion) and tight end Chris Baker (hip) were placed on injured reserve.
Tackle Locklear returns to team
Right tackle Sean Locklear, who missed the previous three days tending to a family issue, was back with the team Friday and participated in the team’s walkthrough. Carroll said Thursday that he expects Locklear will start.
