The Seahawks looked to a small-school prospect, Townson’s Tye Smith, with their fifth round pick. Smith, a 6-foot-1, 195 pound cornerback, certainly fits the size requirements of a Seattle cornerback, but will be seen by some as a reach considering where he played his college ball.
Smith did show enough to get an invite to the NFL Scouting Combine, however, so he isn’t a completely off-the-radar prospect.
With Byron Maxwell leaving in free agency, and with Jeremy Lane unlikely to be ready for the start of the season because of a knee injury, Seattle was expected to address its secondary in the draft.
Here’s a bit more on Smith from the Baltimore Sun.
