Samie Parker, we hardly knew you.
The veteran wide receiver was released by the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday, just three days after signing with the team, to make room for practice squad player Michael Bumpus on the active roster.
Bumpus, a rookie wide receiver out of Washington State, was added to the roster to give the team another wideout who is familiar with the Seahawks’ system. He joins Courtney Taylor, Logan Payne and backup quarterback Seneca Wallace as the most like Seattle receivers to see playing time against San Francisco on Sunday.
“I know those four guys know what to do on every play and how to do it,” Haskell said.
Seattle also has veteran Billy McMullen, who was signed on the same day as Parker.
The Seahawks are without their top four receivers. Nate Burleson and Ben Obomanu are out for the season after being placed on injured reserve, while Deion Branch and Bobby Engram are still a week or two away from returning to action because of injuries.
Bumpus said earlier this week that he always expected to make the Seahawks’ roster.
“Just the way I am, and the person that I am, that was my goal,” the undrafted rookie said. “I knew the odds were against me, and some things had to happen, but I got lucky. I don’t want to say another player getting hurt is lucky, but I just kept grinding.”
Bumpus could be a candidate to return punts, which was another of Burleson’s duties. Burleson suffered a season-ending knee injury last week.
