Michael Sinclair, the defensive end who led the NFL in 1998 with 16 1/2 sacks for the Seattle Seahawks, was released by the team Friday.
Sinclair, 33, had 40 tackles, 25 of them solo, and 3 1/2 sacks for the Seahawks last season, his 11th with the club.
The Seahawks submitted his name to the Houston Texas for the expansion draft this month, but he was not selected.
“Michael has been a wonderful asset to this organization and the Northwest communities over the years, on and off the field,” said Ted Thompson, the team’s vice president of football operations. “Eleven seasons with one team is a remarkable accomplishment in this day and time. We wish him well.”
Sinclair was a three-time Pro Bowl selection from 1996-98 for the Seahawks and had 73 1/2 sacks in his 11 seasons in Seattle, second on the franchise’s career list to Jacob Green’s 116. He had 13 sacks in 1996 and 12 in 1997.
He played in 144 games and started 114 of them, collecting 345 career tackles and forcing 24 fumbles.
Sinclair joined the Seahawks as a sixth-round draft choice from Eastern New Mexico in 1991.
