Seahawks second-round pick Golden Tate has reportedly agreed to terms on a four-year contract. According to multiple reports, Tate, the 60th overall pick, will sign a contract worth $3.261 million over four years with $1.471 guaranteed.
With the 59th and 61st picks already signed, it was expected that Tate would reach a deal soon, and those reported dollar amounts fit right between the money given to the picks on either side of Tate.
Tate announced that an agreement has been made Tuesday morning via Twitter, writing, “Praise God!!! Terms and conditions have been reached for the seattle seahawks! Let’s play ball!”
Assuming the Tate deal gets signed soon, the Seahawks will have every draft pick signed except first-rounders Russell Okung and Earl Thomas.
The Seahawks hope that Tate, an All-American receiver at Notre Dame, will give the team a much-needed play maker on offense. At 5-foot-10, Tate is a bit undersized for his position, but in college and during Seahawks minicamps, he has shown a knack for winning jump balls in traffic. Tate also played baseball at Notre Dame and was drafted out of high school by the Arizona Diamonbacks in the 42nd round.
Since being selected by the Seahawks, Tate has impressed observes on the field, but he also got into a bit of trouble off of it. In early June, he and a friend entered a closed Top Pot doughnut shop in his apartment building and helped themselves to some maple bars. The police were called, but Tate was let off with nothing more than a warning. He also became the subject of a lot of jokes, and Top Pot ended up with an easy marketing campaign, posting signs of maple bars that said: “Irresistible… but please wait until we’re open.”
As of now, Tate shouldn’t have any trouble paying for his own maple bars.
