Seahawks say no Moss, and a lengthy Wednesday injury update

As you probably know by now, the Seahawks passed on Randy Moss, who ended up being claimed by Tennessee. According to reports coming out now, the Titans were the only team to claim Moss, so the Seahawks were hardly the only team to decide Moss’ talent wasn’t worth the baggage that comes with it.

So with that out of the way, let’s get on with the injury updates for today.

QB Matt Hasselbeck (concussion) won’t practice today, but Pete Carroll said Hasselbeck is “Feeling pretty good. We’ll probably look for him to practice tomorrow.” All signs point to Hasselbeck playing Sunday, but with a concussion, he’ll have to pass all the tests before he is cleared to play.

LT Russell Okung (ankle) won’t practice today as the Seahawks had hoped. He worked out yesterday, and the training staff decided he isn’t quite ready to return. He hasn’t been ruled out for Sunday, however.

Okung’s backup, Tyler Polumbus, is also sitting out today with a knee sprain and his status is up in the air. If both can’t play, then Chester Pitts, who took over at left guard for Ben Hamilton, will slide over to left tackle with Mike Gibson taking over at guard.

DT Colin Cole has what Carroll called a “severe ankle sprain” and won’t play Sunday. “He’ll miss a couple of week,” Carroll said.

WR Golden Tate (ankle) was on crutches today, and is also likely out for Sunday, but Carroll didn’t completely rule him out.

WR Mike Williams has a bruised knee and won’t practice today, but it sounds like he’ll be fine for Sunday.

DT Brandon Mebane, who has missed three games with a calf injury, should be able to return for Sunday’s game.

Cornerbacks Kelly Jennings (hamstring) and Walter Thurmond (concussion) should both be at full speed today, Carroll said.

RB/FB Michael Robinson, who missed Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury, is day-to-day.

As for the two players put in IR yesterday, DE Red Bryant has what Carroll called a medial ligament tear, and will have surgery tomorrow. Ben Hamilton, who has a history of concussion problems, has a serious concussion and doctors decided it is best for him to sit out the rest of the year.
