The Seahawks said when they signed Matt Flynn that they would still look to improve at quarterback in the draft if they could, and with their third-round pick, they added Wisconsin QB Russell Wilson
Wilson is an accurate passer and very good athlete, but the biggest knock on him is his height, or more accurately, lack thereof. Wilson stands 5-foot-11, hardly short by normal human standards, but that’s well below the ideal height for NFL quarterbacks.
Wilson, 23, spent most of his college career at NC State before transferring to Wisconsin for his final season. There he helped lead the Badgers to the Rose Bowl while passing for 3,175 yards, 33 touchdowns and 4 interceptions.
Wilson becomes the first quarterback drafted by the Seahawks since Mike Teel in sixth round of the 2009 draft. Pick 75 is the highest Seattle has drafted a quarterback since taking Rick Mirer with the second pick of the 1993 draft. Twice since then the Seahawks have picked quarterbacks in the third round, but both were picked with later picks (Brock Huard, pick No. 77 in 1999 and David Green, pick No. 85 in 2005).
