Marshawn Lynch was not back at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center on Wednesday, but the Seattle Seahawks star running back’s return appears imminent.
Seattle coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday that while Lynch has not yet returned to the team and will not play in Sunday’s season finale at Arizona, that he thinks Lynch can make it back from his abdominal injury in time for the playoffs.
“I would think he can make it back,” Carroll said when asked if Lynch would be back for the first round of the playoffs. “That’s what we hear. It’s really up to that day-to-day kind of progression that he’s making. There’s a lot of days between next week’s start and now, we’ll see what happens.
“He had a really good last couple days and he needs to continue to do that so we can get him running.”
Lynch has been away from the team since undergoing abdominal surgery on Nov. 25, and he’s been doing his rehabilitation with the trainers in San Francisco who he trains with during the offseason.
Carroll said Monday that if everything went well with Lynch on Monday and Tuesday, he could be back with the team on Wednesday. That didn’t happen, but Carroll said it’s possible Lynch could be back later this week.
“He’s really day-to-day right now,” Carroll said. “He’s in the final mode of his rehab, but he’s not ready yet to be here.
“[Returning later this week] could happen,” Carroll added. “I don’t think that’s going to happen, but that could happen.”
Carroll said Lynch is still dealing with some discomfort.
“There’s still some discomfort for him,” Carroll said. “He trying to establish the consistency of coming back the next day and showing he can get back out there, which he’s doing. But still he’s not quite over the hump yet.”
