RENTON — Two rookies will be in the starting lineup when the Seattle Seahawks open the 2008 NFL season Sunday at Buffalo.
Coach Mike Holmgren said that tight end John Carlson and defensive end Lawrence Jackson are among the players expected to start. Jackson was the team’s first-round pick, and Seattle traded up in the second round to select Carlson.
Also expected to start is running back Maurice Morris, although Holmgren said that Julius Jones could start in Week 2 as part of an ongoing rotation.
Second-year player Courtney Taylor will start at wide receiver because veterans Deion Branch and Bobby Engram are injured. At right tackle, Ray Willis is likely to start while Sean Locklear continues to recover from a minor knee injury.
As for return duties, Holmgren said he has yet to decide who will handle that role. Rookie Justin Forsett is a candidate, but Holmgren said starting cornerback Marcus Trufant, starting receiver Nate Burleson and backup quarterback Seneca Wallace are also in the mix.
