Season ends for Coupeville boys in winner-to-state duel

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE – The Coupeville boys basketball team lost a winner-to-state, loser-out Class A tri-district playoff game Saturday.

Coupeville got into early foul trouble and was outshot 36-7 from the free throw line in a 55-43 loss to Cascade Christian at Mountlake Terrace High School.

Coupeville, the Northwest A League regular season champion, ended its season with a 16-5 record.

Coupeville’s three interior players got into early foul trouble and as a result Cascade Christian shot 17 first-half free throws on its way to a 25-17 lead at the midway break.

Coupeville’s leading scorer, Chris Good, fouled out of the game before the end of the third quarter and finished the game with 11 points off four of five shooting. Teammate Brad Sherman also scored 11 points off 5-for-10 shooting.

Jacob Washburn scored a game-high 16 points to lead Cascade Christian.

Bellevue Christian 51, King’s 49: King’s tied the score with 40 seconds to play in the Class A tri-district game, but Bellevue Christian scored on its next possession and the Knights turned the ball over on their final possession.

Ben Pawlek and Chris Faidley led King’s with 14 and 13 points, respectively. King’s is already guaranteed a spot in the state tournament, but will face Orcas Island at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in consolation play.

Shoreline Christian will play the Darrington-Chief Leschi loser at 8:30 p.m. Friday at King’s in another loser-out game.

Shoreline Christian 55, Crescent 43: Shoreline Christian jumped out early and never looked back in a loser-out Class B tri-district game. Darcy Madison scored 12 of her game-high 22 points in the third quarter and also had game highs of 12 rebounds and four steals. Shoreline Christian will play the loser of Tuesday’s Mount Vernon Christian vs. Evergreen Lutheran game at 7 p.m. Friday at King’s H. S. in another loser-out game.
