TALKING POINTS
For the second straight night the Everett Silvertips were missing the cutting edge in front of goal, and for the second straight night it cost them. Everett dominated the first period and had the puck in good position on several occasions. However, the Tips could only find the net once, and one goal wasn’t enough.
After that it was the Marcel Noebels show as the T-birds winger scored the game’s final four goals. One of those was an empty-netter and another was a garbage-time tally, so the final score is misleading.
TURNING POINT
Everett, leading 1-0, took a pair of bad penalties midway through the second period. Seattle converted both — just 1:05 apart — to turn the game upside down.
HIT OF THE DAY
Just prior to the first of those Everett penalties midway through the second, Seattle’s Travis Toomey ran over Jari Erricson, sending Erricson’s helmet flying. To add further insult, Erricson was immediately sent to the box for a prior holding infraction.
THREE STARS
First star: Noebels. Four goals, not sure what the official term is for that.
Second star: Calvin Pickard, Seattle. 39 saves, kept the T-birds in the game early.
Third star: Luke Lockhart, Seattle. One goal and one assist, his goal was a beauty.
The Herald’s honorable mention: Ryan Murray, Everett. One goal and was threatening from the point.
