SEATTLE — A group of Seattle businessmen is offering to buy the Sonics and save the basketball team for the city.
A spokesman says the group has sent a letter to owner Clay Bennett expressing its interest and asking for a meeting.
The group is led by Dennis Daugs, managing director of Lakeside Capital Management. He’s a former minority owner of the NBA franchise.
The letter says his group wants the Sonics to continue to play in Key Arena and avoid a legal fight with the city.
Bennett is expected to talk about plans to move the franchise today because there’s no offer for a new arena in Seattle.
A Bennett spokesman has said he’s not looking to sell the team. His group of Oklahoma City businessmen bought the team last year for $350 million.
