SEATTLE — Right-hander Erasmo Ramirez has been recalled by the Seattle Mariners to make his season debut against the Boston Red Sox.
Seattle made the expected move official on Thursday morning before closing out its series against the Red Sox. Seattle optioned right-handed reliever Carter Capps to Triple-A Tacoma to clear a roster spot for Ramirez.
Ramirez was expected to be in contention for a spot in Seattle’s rotation coming out of spring training before being sidelined by a sore right elbow that kept him on the disabled list for nearly two months. He was 3-3 with a 3.09 ERA during his comeback at Tacoma.
Ramirez appeared in 16 games and made eight starts last season for Seattle and went 1-3 with a 3.36 ERA in 59 innings.
