Seattle U vs. WSU baseball in Everett tonight

A quick heads up to any baseball fans looking for a way to spend a nice evening, or to any Seattle U or WSU fans in the area who want to support their teams—the Redhawks are hosing the Cougars at Everett Memorial Stadium at 6:30 tonight.

As an added bonus, the Redhawks roster features a number of Snohomish County athletes who will be playing close to home including Riley Thompkins of Lynnwood, Brandon Kizer of Marysville, Grant Gunning of Snohomish and Jace Sloan, who is from Puyallup but played at Everett CC.

Below is the press release from Seattle U, which includes ticket information:

Seattle University, in partnership with the Everett AquaSox, would like to remind fans that the Redhawk baseball team will host Washington State in a collegiate baseball game tonight, April 23, at 6:30 p.m. at Everett Memorial Stadium.

Gates will open to the public at 5:30 p.m., and all seating will be general admission. Tickets cost $7 for adults, $5 for youth under 17 years of age, and $5 per ticket for groups of 15 or more. Seattle U students, faculty, and staff will receive free admission when they show a valid school ID. Members of the U.S. military are eligible for two free tickets with a valid military ID. Tickets are now available through the AquaSox office by calling 425-258-3673 or by going online to this website: http://ea1.glitnirticketing.com/eaticket/web/stadiumg.php?status_id=2&event_id=213. For those planning to buy tickets tonight at the entrance, only cash will be accepted as payment once the gates open.

In celebration of this exciting event, the AquaSox are also offering local fans the opportunity to buy a special three-game ticket package that includes a ticket to the SU-WSU game, AquaSox Opening Night (June 20), and Seattle U Night at the AquaSox (July 24). Packages are only $21 and can be purchased by calling the AquaSox office at 425-258-3673 or by visiting http://www.aquasox.com.

The Seattle U baseball team is currently 19-16 after winning three straight games at Bannerwood Stadium in Bellevue: one over British Columbia and two against Concordia University. Senior first baseman Riley Tompkins hails from Lynnwood, Wash., and senior right-handed pitcher Brandon Kizer, tonight’s scheduled starting pitcher, is from Marysville, Wash.

“We are very excited to play in Everett. To have an opportunity to play in a minor league park with such a great legacy and then match up against a quality club like Washington State makes the game one of our highlights of the season,” Seattle U head coach Donny Harrel said.

Washington State is currently 20-16 so far in the 2012 season after winning two of three games on the road against nationally-ranked Oregon. The Cougars last reached the NCAA Tournament in 2009 and has made four trips to the College World Series in the history of the baseball program.

Washington State leads the all-time series over Seattle U, 14-6, including two wins during an Easter weekend series in Pullman. Seattle U did earn a 5-4 victory over the Cougars in the last game of the series, the first victory by the Redhawks over Washington State since 1968. This will be the first-ever meeting on the diamond between the two schools in the western half of Washington.

“We are looking forward to playing a game on the west side of the mountains in front of the Cougar faithful against a good club like Seattle University,” Washington State head coach Donnie Marbut said.

Live stats will be available for this game on GoSeattleU.com, as will a live video broadcast with Dan Giuliani.
