With their inaugural season getting closer and closer, the North Sound SeaWolves are steadily filling in their organization.
Snohomish County’s newest minor-league sports team, which will compete in the United Soccer League’s Premier Development League, made two recent signings and also will
hold an open tryout Saturday.
The tryout is scheduled for 9 a.m. at Kasch Park in Everett (8811 Airport Road). The cost to try out is $45. Owner/head coach Alex Silva said he would make a decision by Monday as to who will advance to a March 26 scrimmage and post the names on the team’s web site.
The SeaWolves open their season May 7 at Goddard Stadium against the Washington Crossfire.
One player who will be with the SeaWolves is Adam Nowland, who will serve as player/coach. Nowland may be familiar to soccer fans. The 29-year-old native of Preston, England, played for nine clubs in England, including English Premier League teams Blackpool, West Ham United and Nottingham Forest. In 1998, Nowland was the youngest player to ever score a goal for Blackpool. In 2004, he played in West Ham’s 1-0 upset of Chelsea in the League Cup. Nowland also spent time with Wimbledon, Gillingham, Preston North End, Stockport County, Lancaster City, Notts County and AFC Flyde. Nowland has been a solid goal scorer and defender in his career and gives the SeaWolves an experienced player to build around.
The SeaWolves also added to their coaching staff with the signing of goalkeeper coach Andrew Smolen. After playing competitively, Smolen began coaching in 2001 at various levels, including extensive experience coaching at the high school level.
