Snohomish High School football players Brad Perry, Dayton Wiseman and T.J. Gionet have played together since middle school. In seventh grade they were involved in a failed extra-point kick attempt — Gionet as the snapper, Perry as the holder and Wiseman as the kicker — that would have won the game.
Since then the first time the trio had a chance for a game-winning kick was Sept. 28 against Mariner. This time, they did everything right and Wiseman drilled a 24-yard field goal as time expired, giving Snohomish a 22-20 victory.
Snohomish, which last week got a surprising challenge from Everett but beat the Seagulls 37-27, has five victories this season, one more than it had during the entire 2006 season. Unlike last fall when a loss against Oak Harbor triggered a six-game losing streak, this season Snohomish bounced back from its first defeat (38-10 Sept. 21 against Oak Harbor) and is a playoff contender.
The Panthers (4-1 Western Conference North Division, 5-1 overall) go for win No. 6 Friday versus Stanwood (1-5) at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
