A total of seven Everett players on the current roster will be attending NHL training camps. Those seven are:
Forward Landon Ferraro (Detroit)
Forward Josh Birkholz (Florida)
Forward Kellan Tochkin (Vancouver)
Defenseman Alex Theriau (Dallas)
Defenseman Rasmus Rissanen (Carolina)
Goaltender Kent Simpson (Chicago)
Goaltender Thomas Heemskerk (San Jose)
All seven of those players are either draft picks or have already signed contracts. Heemskerk is the only one who might not come back as he’s an overager and thus eligible to play professionally in the minors. The other six would need to make their NHL teams to play in the pros, and none are considered candidates to crack the NHL this season.
The good news, both for the coaching staff and the fans, is that none of them leave until next week. That means they’ll all be on display during this weekend’s preseason tournament games. That’s a contrast to years past, when some players departed either prior or during the tournament.
