Manager John McLaren promised that we hadn’t seen the last of struggling first baseman Richie Sexson, and his lineup for tonight’s series opener against the Angels proves it.
Sexson and his .200 average are back, batting seventh.
Sexson was fairly invisible in the five games he sat while Miguel Cairo started at first base. McLaren said Sexson spent a lot of his time during games working on his swing in the batting cage, tweaking the mechanical and mental flaws that have led to such a poor start.
Surely this is the last time the Mariners will have to do this. If Sexson can’t turn himself around, it doesn’t do him or the club any good to keep running him out there to fail.
