Again, the Tulsa Shock have turned to a former Seattle Storm player to help them improve on them improve on their dismal 1-13 record.
The Shock signed 2004 WNBA Finals MVP Betty Lennox on Friday. Lennox will team up with former Storm player Sheryl Swoopes along with promising rookie Liz Cambage under new head coach Teresa Edwards.
“I think Betty will bring the ability to score to our young team this season,” Edwards said on the Shock website. “She has proven ability to take over a game if necessary and that’s what we are hoping she will do for us this season.”
Lennox averaged 14.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists in the Storm’s 2004 playoff run, helping Seattle win its first championship.
Lennox had her best season in 2008 with the Atlanta Dream. She averaged 17.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game, starting 33 of the 34 regular season games. Lennox averages 12.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per contest for her career.
Lennox played in 11 games for the Los Angeles Sparks last season before a knee injury ended her season.
To make room for Lennox, the Shock released Chastity Reed, a third-round selection in the 2011 WNBA Draft.
