Shorecrest beats Kamiak to remain undefeated

SHORELINE – The Shorecrest Scots volleyball team used great defense and strong play at the net to post a 3-1 victory over Kamiak, 27-25, 25-23, 14-25, 25-19, Thursday night at Shorecrest High School.

“We played tough defense in such a close match,” Shorecrest coach Dave Morehouse said.

With the victory Shorecrest remains undefeated at 1-0 in division and 6-0 overall.

Anna Herold and Kerry Clavadetscher led the way for the Scots with 11 kills, 21 assists and 10 kills and 21 assists respectively.

“This was a team effort tonight,” Morehouse said.

Nicole Bozek recorded 20 kills and 15 blocks, Julia Church had 14 kills and 11 blocks, Devin Larson contributed 43 assists and Melissa Fredricks added 28 digs to pace Kamiak (0-1, 3-3).

“Both teams played well, Kamiak is a good team,” Morehouse said.

Lynnwood 3, Mountlake Terrace 0: At Lynnwood, Kaytlyn Dill had eight of her 10 kills in the third game of Lynnwood’s 25-20, 25-20, 26-24 Wesco South win. Dill also added four blocks and setter Heather McCartney had 21 assists and a career-high five blocks for the Royals (1-0 in league, 2-4 overall). Cassie Hansen had 10 kills and Dana Clement had 20 assists for Mountlake Terrace (0-1, 3-3).

Edmonds-Woodway 3, Meadowdale 2: At Lynnwood, Edmonds-Woodway improved to 1-0 in division, 4-2 overall, edging Meadowdale (0-1, 2-4) in five sets (25-20, 21-25, 25-21, 20-25, 15-3) to win the Wesco South match. Cailin Fellows led the Warriors with 19 kills, and Erin Lauber added eight kills and six blocks. Sophomore Lynsey Rohrbach had 14 kills and Katie Cowan produced 35 assists and seven digs to lead the Mavericks.

Mariner 3, Shorewood 2: At Everett, Caitlyn Hayden and Brittany Ruscha combined for 25 kills and 20 blocks, Shannon Peterson had 25 assists and Katherine Mabanta recorded 37 digs to lead Mariner (1-0 league, 2-4 overall) to the 17-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-21, 16-14 Wesco South victory. Katie Dapper had 14 kills and six blocks to lead Shorewood (0-1, 2-5).

Cascade 3, Oak Harbor 1: At Oak Harbor, Ashley Naylor had 18 assists to lead Cascade (1-0 league, 2-4 overall) to the 14-25, 25-17, 25-22, 26-24 Wesco North victory. Becca Wheeler paced Oak Harbor (0-1, 3-2) with 21 assists.

Monroe 3, Everett 2: At Everett, Kylin Munoz had 21 kills and Tarah Petrick added 44 assists to help lead Monroe (1-0 division, 6-0 overall) to a 20-25, 25-20, 25-13, 15-25, 15-5 Wesco North victory. Lauren Hope had 31 digs and four aces and Maureen Frauenholtz added 16 kills for Everett (0-1, 2-4).

Marysville-Pilchuck 3, Snohomish 1: At Snohomish, Marysville-Pilchuck improved to 1-0 in division and 3-3 overall, handing Snohomish just its second loss, 24-26, 25-23, 25-12, 25-15. Laura Degerness led the Tomahawks with 13 kills, four assists and eight digs. Larissa Dirks led Snohomish with five aces.

Stanwood 3, Lake Stevens 0: At Stanwood, Whitney Appleby had 28 assists and five aces and Megan Amundson added 10 kills in leading Stanwood to the 25-9, 25-14, 25-21 Wesco North win. Dawnia Sudweeks had eight kills and Leah Titus had 16 digs for Stanwood (1-0 in league, 5-1 overall). Sandy Crannell (11 digs), Kaitlyn Jones (21 assists) and Karissa Tri (six kills) led Lake Stevens (0-1, 0-5).

Jackson 3, Arlington 1: At Arlington, Jackson improved to 5-1 with the 25-11, 22-25, 25-21, 25-11 win over Arlington (0-6). Senior Brittany Cain led the Timberwolves with 12 kills, and Audra Linsenmeyer added 22 assists to lead the Timberwolves to the non-conference win. The Eagles were led by Shayna Prause who had eight kills and four aces.

Coupeville 3, Lakewood 2: At Lakewood, Coupeville (2-4 in league, 3-4 overall) won a back-and-forth Cascade Conference battle against Lakewood 25-20, 19-25, 25-18, 21-25, 15-7. Peyton Mizel led Lakewood (2-4, 3-4) with 23 assists. Amanda Gregory had seven kills and Aly Stewart added six for the Cougars.

King’s 3, Cedarcrest 0: At Shoreline, Kimberly Mayhle, with her 17 kills and 18 digs, led King’s to the 25-20. 25-19. 25-15 win over Cedarcrest in Cascade Conference play. Kailey Trautmann added 12 kills and 21 digs for the Knights (6-0 league and overall). Kaylen McRay and Kristen McKinally each had six kills to lead the Red Wolves (4-2, 4-2).

Archbishop Murphy 3, South Whidbey 0: At Langley, Kayelynne Huggins had five kills, five aces and three digs to lead the Wildcats (5-1 league, 5-2 overall) to the Cascade Conference victory, 25-8, 25-14, 25-20 over the Falcons (2-4, 2-4).

Granite Falls 3, Sultan 0: At Granite Falls, Michaela Dudder had 11 kills and Jade Rondorf had 11 digs to lead the Tigers (3-3 in conference and overall) to the 25-12, 25-13, 25-22 Cascade Conference victory over Sultan (0-6, 0-7).

Shoreline Christian 3, Orcas Island 0: At Shoreline, Shoreline Christian (5-1 league) improved to 5-2 overall with the 25-17, 25-20, 25-12 Northwest 1A/2B win against Orcas Island (2-4, 3-4). Freshman Laura Credit was 19-for-20 from the service line with three aces and Julia DeKoekkoek added eight service aces to lead the Crusaders.

Darrington 3, Friday Harbor 0: At Friday Harbor, Kristy Green had six kills and Maggie Wicken added five kills and two blocks as Darrington swept Friday Harbor (0-4 in league and overall) 25-20, 25-19, 25-17 in the Northwest 1A/2B League match. Mandy Powell had a big match for the Loggers (4-2, 6-2) with 25 assists and seven aces.
