Shorecrest earns key victory against 3A rival Lynnwood

SHORELINE – Sophomore Mary Tseng scored seven consecutive points in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter to lead Shorecrest to an important 40-37 victory over Western Conference South foe and fellow 3A opponent Lynnwood Friday night at home.

“This was a very important game for us because we are both fighting to be that second team as far as the 3A district playoffs are concerned,” said Shorecrest coach Josh Lowe, whose Scots (4-4 league, 4-6 overall) picked up their second-straight victory over the Royals (3-6, 4-7). “It is so important to get that automatic berth. But we still have to finish better than them (the Royals) record wise in the standings.”

Junior Amy Farquar and Tseng each finished with a team-high 14 points.

Tseng drained a 3-pointer with a minute remaining in the fourth quarter to give Shorecrest a 33-32 lead. She’d seal the victory 20 seconds later by converting four-straight free throws.

“She really helped us at the line tonight,” Lowe said. “We went 8-for-9 in that last quarter, that was big.”

Farquar, whose 14 points were a career high, also grabbed 13 rebounds for the Scots. Molly Hunsinger led all scorers with 15 points for the Royals.
