Shorecrest prevails over Arlington for 3A state berth

EDMONDS -Thanks to an early goal the Shorecrest girls soccer team was able to prevail 2-1 against Arlington in a winner-to-state 3A District 1 playoff game at Edmonds District Stadium.

Egen Heffernan scored a goal in the sixth minute, which is what Shorecrest soccer coach Mindy Dalziel said “carried us through.”

The early goal gave Shorecrest (13-5-1 overall) confidence going into the rest of the game.

Senior midfielder Gina Adams was the star of game, assisting on the first goal and scoring what would be the deciding goal in the 41st minute off an assist from Katie McCorkell.

Adams was “all over the place” Dalziel said. She also praised Adams’ leadership throughout the game.

The Scots play a first round game in the state tournament early next week.

Arlington (4-11-5) fought back with a goal late in the game by Kristen Allen on a penalty kick.

“Arlington battled,” Dalziel said. But our “defenders kept us in the game.”
