SHORELINE — The Shorecrest girls soccer team scored its lone goal in the 32nd minute and the Scots held on to defeat Edmonds-Woodway 1-0 in a Wesco 3A South contest Tuesday night.
“We played pretty good defense and we were able to keep possession when we had the ball,” Shorecrest head coach Mindy Dalziel said. “We kept Edmonds-Woodway away from the ball and that was our gameplan.”
Shorecrest’s lone goal came from the left foot of Sophia Viviano. Viviano played a pass down the right wing from Alexa Iacolucci and moved to the middle of the box before beating EW goalkeeper Kiara Towell near post to end the scoreless tie.
Scots goalkeeper Kate Wiper proceeded to shut out the Warriors for the remainder of the match as Shorecrest improved to 2-0-0 in Wesco 3A league play and 4-2-0 overall.
“She played smart today,” Dalziel said of Wiper. “Didn’t make any mistakes, didnt get left in no-mans land and stayed pretty calm back there. That was a comfort to us.”
The Warriors dropped to 0-2-0 in league play and 3-3-0 overall.
