Shorewood beats Kentwood in soccer playoff opener

KENT — Anastasia Norins scored twice as Shorewood survived an offensive onslaught by Kentwood to win it’s first state soccer playoff game since 2001 Wednesday night at French Field.

Kentwood had 28 shots and Shorewood only seven, but it was the Thunderbirds who scored first in their 2-1 victory in the Class 4A first-round playoff game.

Shorewood hosts the winner of the South Kitsap-Woodinville game Saturday night at 5 p.m. at Shoreline Stadium in the 4A quarterfinals.

In the 12th minute Norins collected a cross from Xana Bartlett from eight yards out and booted the ball into the back of the net. Norins scored again in the 53rd minute off a deflection after a corner kick by Lisa Santroth.

Shorewood kept frustrating the attack of the undefeated Conquerors behind a strong defensive performance. Goalkeeper Madison Hollenbeck had nine saves.

“Our defense this whole playoff series has been phenomenal,” first year coach Nathan Davis said.

Cedarcrest 2, North Mason 0: At Silverdale, Maggie Pleis scored off a Rachael Kevin assist in the 47th minute and then returned the favor, assisting Kevin on a goal in the 67th minute to lead Cedarcrest to the win in the first round of the 2A state playoffs at Silverdale Stadium.
