SEATTLE — The Shorewood team of Jeff Jablonski and Justin Michelson defeated Marc Rollins and James Hong of Kamiak 6-4, 6-3 to win the Northwest District boys tennis doubles championship Monday at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
The victory advances Jablonski and Michelson to the state championships in May.
"My team was aggressive," Shorewood coach Corliss Liekkio said. "They come to the net well, but they did not overhit the game."
Earlier, Jablonski amd Michelson beat Jim Vessella and Peter Chung of Kamiak in a semifinal match, 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 6-4. In the other semifinal match, Rollins and Hong defeated Lonny Johnson and Aaron Metzler of Sehome 6-2, 1-6, 6-2.
In the consolation match, Vessella and Chung defeated Johnson and Metzler, 6-7, 7-6, 7-6.
The Kamiak teams of Vessella-Chung and Rollins-Hong will play at this afternoon at for the district’s runnerup position. The winner of today’s match also advances to the state championships in May.
