Shorewood fends off district rival Shorecrest, 99-84

SHORELINE – Wesco South leader Shorewood came from behind to defeat second-place Shorecrest 99-84 in a boys swim meet Thursday.

Dylan Crooks won the 50-yard freestyle event and swam on three winning relay teams to set the tone for the Thunderbirds (5-0 in league, 6-2 overall).

Crooks recorded personal best split times as the first swimmer on the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams. Both teams recorded state qualifying times, in large part due to Crooks’ fast starts.

Freshman Tyler Heyden set the pace for Shorecrest (4-2, 5-4), winning the 200 and 500 freestyle races. The Thunderbirds won three of the final four events – the 200 and 400 freestyle relays and freshman Eric Joy placed first in the 100 breaststroke.
