Shorewood nabs win

SHORELINE – Chris Morris scored two goals and goalkeeper Reed Renfrow collected his ninth shutout as the Shorewood boys soccer team defeated Mariner 3-0 in a mini-tiebreaker Friday at Shoreline Stadium.

Shorewood (6-1-2 league, 10-3-3 overall), which held Mariner without a shot in both 20-minute halves, earned the Wesctern Conference South Division’s No. 1 seed to the 4A Northwest District playoffs and plays Snohomish in a winner-to-state game at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Goddard Stadium.

The Marauders (6-1-2, 10-4-2) host Mount Vernon in a loser-out game at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Goddard Stadium.

Morris gave the Thunderbirds a 1-0 lead nine minutes into the game with his eighth goal of the season.

Ten minutes later, Morris found Eric Sather for Shorewood’s second goal. Morris knocked in his second goal a minute into the second half.

“We’re very excited to play Snohomish,” Shorewood coach Drew Thompson said. “We have heard good things about them. It should be a great game.”

Meadowdale 9, Lynnwood 0: Meadowdale wrapped up the Wesco South championship. Eric Marty had a goal and two assists and Joe Bartkowski and Nick Holmes had two goals apiece.

Archbishop Bishop 4-13, Coupeville 1-4: Nick Karthas hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning and batted 2-for-2 with three RBI for Archbishop Murphy in the first game of the Northwest 1A doubleheader. Alex Burch had four hits and four RBI for the Wildcats in the nightcap.

Teammate Randall Eldridge won the long and triple jumps and anchored the winning 400 relay team to lead Lynnwood to the team title. Edmonds-Woodway’s Glenn Gallagher won the 200 and 400 dashes.
