Shorewood ‘steals’ a win

SHORELINE – The Shorewood Thunderbirds had greed on their minds.

Stung by a three-game losing streak, Shorewood returned home to steal its way to a 56-45 Western Conference South Division girls basketball victory over Everett on Wednesday night.

Shorewood’s defense kept the pressure on Everett to collect 22 steals in the game. Nanda McCormick led the thievery with seven steals while teammate Brenee Mullen had six.

“It was a clutch game for us to get,” Shorewood coach Camelia Bloom said. “This was a great team win.”

Shorewood’s defense in the fourth quarter held Everett to four points as the T-birds pulled away. Caitlin McGinley scored all six of her points in the 18-4 run.

McCormick led Shorewood with 22 points and grabbed six rebounds. Teammates Mullen and Kim Vanderzee both finished with 10 points.

Lynnwood 45, Edmonds-Woodway 41: Molly Hunsinger scored 23 points, including four 3-point goals, and Kelsey Ayres grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Royals to the Wesco South victory. Katie Trew led the Warriors with 14 points.
