Shorewood tennis team wins

SHORELINE – The Shorewood boys tennis team dominated the doubles matches en route to a 5-2 victory over previously unbeaten Jackson in Western Conference South play Monday.

Shorewood (3-0) next plays Mariner on Wednesday, while Jackson (2-1) hosts Meadowdale.

Shorewood and Jackson played to a 2-2 tie in the four singles matches, but the Thunderbirds swept all three doubles matches.

Shorewood prevailed in both three-set matches of the day. At No. 3 doubles, the tandem of Aaron Lee and Brenton Mestel held on to defeat Jackson’s Nick Kang and Eugene Song, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5.

The Thunderbirds’ Sachin Narvekar came back from a set down to edge Alex Yee in No. 2 singles, a match featuring two sets decided by tiebreakers. The final score was 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-5).

At Shoreline

Singles-Reading (J) def. Mapalo 6-2, 6-3; Narvekar (S) 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-5); Lin (J) def. Turner 6-2, 6-0; Abney (S) def. DeWeese 6-2, 6-0. Doubles-Bourne-McCall (S) def. Burke-Lee 6-0, 6-1; Ma-Reni (S) def. Lathrope-Citron 6-3, 6-3; Lee-Mestel (S) def. Kim-Reed 6-1, 4-6, 7-5. Records-Jackson: 2-1 overall. Shorewood: 3-0.

Lake Stevens 5, Monroe 2: Ryan Arndt’s 6-2, 6-0 victory over Monroe’s Toby Pickens at No. 1 singles got Lake Stevens off on the right foot in the Wesco North meet.

Kamiak 7, Lynnwood 0: Eichii Negishi’s 6-1, 6-0 victory over Lynnwood’s Ryan Crolland in No. 1 singles led the way for Kamiak in the Wesco South meet sweep.

At Mukilteo

Everett 6, Mountlake Terrace 1: Kirk Nielsen’s 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 win over Mountlake Terrace’s Scott Mathews at No. 2 singles was the highlight of the Wesco South meet.

“They are both good players and it was a pretty close match,” Everett coach Tim Boyd said. “Kirk just outlasted him and was good at being patient.”

Marysville-Pilchuck 4, Oak Harbor 3: Marysville-Pilchuck’s No. 3 doubles team of junior Chris King and sophomore Justin Rumsey, playing for the first time together, defeated Oak Harbor’s Michael Canda and Dennis Mitchell 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in a pivotal match.

Girls soccer

Archbishop Murphy 1, Concrete 0: Archbishop Murphy’s Danielle Shandera scored the game-winning goal a minute into the second overtime to give the Wildcats the Northwest A victory. Shandera scored from 25 yards out on the right side, lofting the ball over the goalkeeper into the upper-left corner of net. Jess Everth, Lauren Jelinek and Alicia Bourke combined for the shutout in goal for Archbishop Murphy.

At Concrete

Goals-Archbishop Murphy: Shandera. Goalkeepers-Archbishop Murphy: Jess Eberth, Lauren Jelinek, Alicia Bourke. Concrete: Jackie Lewis. Records-Archbishop Murphy: 1-0-2 overall. Concrete: 0-1-0.

Volleyball

Redmond 3, Shorewood 0: At Shoreline, Redmond’s Chelsea Presto collected 21 assists and teammate Mary Martineau had 11 kills in the Mustangs’ 25-10, 25-18, 25-16 non-conference victory.

Bellevue Christian 3, King’s 2: At Bellevue, King’s lost its Chinook League opener 25-16, 23-25, 25-23, 17-25, 15-10. Sara Mosiman had 13 kills and six blocks for King’s. Teammate Ashley Strecker added 19 assists.

Boys soccer

Archbishop Murphy 4, Seattle Christian 4: Andy Hewitt had a goal and two assists for Archbishop Murphy, and teammate Alex Ferris scored twice in the Wildcats’ non-conference season opener.

At Seattle
