Sidney Rice is ready for prime time, and no, we’re not talking about night football

While you’re no doubt aware by now of Sidney Rice’s talents as a wide receiver, did you know the Seahawks’ free-agent acquisition apparently decided to dabble in acting this offseason as well?

Tonight, Rice will have a cameo on the FX show “The League” which airs at 10:30 p.m. Rice didn’t want to give much away, so he wouldn’t say how big his part is, but for a little tease, there is this video clip.

But of course football is Rice’s real job, so we can discuss that as well. As well as Rice has played in his first two games, something I hadn’t noticed until Rice pointed it out, was that he did not have a single catch in Seattle’s big second half against Atlanta in which the offense put up 21 points and 234 yards of offense. And while Rice certainly doesn’t go into a game hoping to be shut out for a half, he had no problem with it last weekend considering how well the offense was moving.

“It was awesome,” he said. “It was amazing to be a part of that. I didn’t catch one ball in the second half, but I believe I had most fun in a half of football that I’ve had in the NFL. Everything was going so well, we were moving the ball up and down the field. . . It was good all around. Everyone was doing well, doing what they’re supposed to do and executing.”

From a big-picture standpoint, it’s probably a very good thing that Seattle was able to move the ball so well without relying on Rice. Only a week earlier, Rice caught eight of Tarvaris Jackson’s 18 completions and accounted for 109 of the team’s 171receiving yard. Throughout the preseason, then again in that game, it was abundantly clear that Jackson is way more comfortable throwing to his former Minnesota teammate than the rest of his receivers, so the fact that Jackson and the offense were able to do so much without Rice having a catch means the offense is become more versatile, which is always a good thing.
