This health bulletin from the Mariners this afternoon:
Carlos Silva should make his next start after coming out of Sunday’s game in the fourth inning because of tightness in his lower back.
As for Erik Bedard, all anybody’s sure about is that he’ll make his next meal. On the disabled lilst since July 5 because of tightness in his left shoulder, Bedard threw Sunday in the batting cage. Or, according to manager Jim Riggleman, “he tossed the ball around a little bit.”
Whether that constitutes an important step in Bedard’s return to the mound, nobody with the Mariners is saying. Most questions about Bedard’s status draw shugged shoulders as a response. Nobody has said that Bedard is on any specific track back to the mound, which is further indication that the July 31 trade deadline will come and go before he pitches again.
