They’re not playing for peanuts now.
The FC Silver Lake Strikers boys U13 team jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 20 minutes and went on to a 7-3 victory over the Heat 89 Blue at Burien Saturday in an opening game of the Washington State Youth Soccer Association Snickers Championship Cup.
Tyson Rickman recorded a three-goal hat trick to help spark the Strikers, who improved their overall record to 20-4.
“It was a nice start,” coach Tim Willmorth said of the Strikers effort. “They played at the top of their game. It was the sharpest they’ve been all year.”
Rickman scored a goal in the opening minute off an assist by Daniel Oh and then added another score with an assist from Kyle Benson.
A tally by Eric Miller ran the count to 3-0 before the Heat got back in it with a pair of goals. Just before the first half ended Matt McCorkle scored off a Miller corner kick.
Second half goals by Rickman, Dirk Snel and Sam Loose helped the Strikers close out the Heat.
Oh and Benson each wound up with two assists in the game. Snel and Kevin Shewfelt also had assists.
“It was one of those games where we couldn’t do anything wrong,” Willmorth said. “Everyone was where they needed to be.”
Boys and girls teams from throughout the local area continue state cup action this weekend. The Strikers will face FC United 88 at 3:40 p.m. Saturday at Everett’s Cash Park.
