SPOKANE – The Everett Silvertips inched closer to first place in the U.S. Division with a 3-2 victory over the Spokane Chiefs on Wednesday night.
Michael Wuchterl scored his first Western Hockey League goal and Ryan Blatchford made two assists for the Tips, who are just one point behind the Tri-City Americans, who were idle Wednesday.
The Tips (28-21-8-2) went seven games over the .500 mark for the first time this season. Everett now has 66 points on the year, while Tri-City leads with 66 points and the Portland Winter Hawks are in third place with 63 points.
Wuchterl, who at 16 is one of the youngest players on the team, scored 3 minutes, 46 seconds into the first period to give Everett a 1-0 lead. Blatchford and Jovan Matic were credited with assists on the goal.
Riley Armstrong and Mitch Love both scored in the second period to give the Tips a 3-1 edge.
Everett will next host Portland at the Events Center on Friday at 7:05 p.m.
