Kent Simpson turned away everything Portland threw his way, and the Everett Silvertips shut out the Winter Hawks 2-0 Friday afternoon at the Tri-City Americans Preseason Tournament.
The 16-year-old Simpson stopped all 36 shots he faced as Everett ended up splitting its two games at the tournament. The Tips are 2-3 in the preseason with two games remaining.
Kellan Tochkin and Paul Van de Velde scored for Everett. Tochkin broke the scoreless deadlock late in the second period on the power play, putting a shot into the top corner from the slot following a scrum in front of the goal. Van de Velde added an insurance goal midway through the third period, forcing in a rebound following a Graham Potuer shot from the point.
Jordan White saved 32 of the 34 shots he faced in goal for Portland.
Everett concludes its preseason next weekend with home-and-home games against the Tri-City Americans.
