Silvertips blank Winterhawks, stave off elimination

Tyler Palmer records a shutout in Everett’s 5-0 win.

EVERETT — Tyler Palmer record a shutout with 27 saves and the Everett Silvertips avoided elimination Friday night at Angel of the Winds Arena with a 5-0 victory over the Portland Winterhawks in Game of their first-round WHL playoffs series.

Caden Zaplinty’s goal 2 minutes, 49 seconds into the first period put Everett ahead for good. Beau Courtney, Jackson Berezowski, Roan Woodward and Austin Roest added goals for the Silvertips. Jesse Heslop had two assists.

Portland leads the series 3-1. Game 5 is 6 p.m. Saturday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland.

Jan Spur stopped 31 of 36 shots for Portland.
