KENNEWICK — The Everett Silvertips can take consolation from coming away with a point from their most difficult weekend of the season.
However, the Tips were left wondering what could have been.
Mitch Fadden scored his second goal of the game 1 minute, 10 seconds into overtime, giving the Tri-City Americans a 4-3 victory over the Tips Sunday evening.
Everett, playing its third road game in three nights against the top two teams in the Western Conference, led 2-0 late in the second period and 3-2 with less than four minutes remaining in regulation. However, the Tips were unable to hang on for the two points. Everett is now 0-6 in games decided in overtime this season.
Taylor Procyshen scored his second goal of the game to tie it with 3:38 remaining in regulation, and Chet Pickard made 25 saves in goal for the Americans (33-14-0-3).
Zack Dailey, Alex Theriau and Shane Harper scored for Everett (21-21-6-0), which suffered its sixth straight loss. Kent Simpson finished with 36 saves in net for the Tips.
It looked as though the Tips might just steal a victory when Harper was able to chip a loose puck over Pickard from close range, giving Everett a 3-2 lead at 7:49 of the third period.
Everett absorbed Tri-City’s pressure for much of the remainder of the period, but the Tips couldn’t keep the Americans out at 16:22, Procyshen firing a shot under Simpson after a feed from Johnny Lazo.
The Tips managed to kill off a late Tri-City power play, getting the game into overtime and earning a point. But just 1:10 into the extra period Fadden made a nice move around Simpson to win it.
After a scoreless first period Everett took the lead early in the second thanks to a pair of power-play goals. Dailey opened the scoring at 3:31, tipping Graham Potuer’s shot from the point past Pickard. The Tips made it 2-0 1:37 later when Theriau was able to blast a slap shot past Pickard for his first career WHL goal.
The Americans then turned up the pressure, and while Everett was able to withstand it for a while, Tri-City tied it with goals 36 seconds apart late in the period. Fadden snuck a shot under Simpson on the power play at 16:29, then Procyshen scored on a one-timer out front at 17:05 to knot it up.
