MOOSE JAW, Saskatchewan — For the second straight game the Everett Silvertips built a two-goal lead, and for the second straight game the Tips came away with nothing.
The Moose Jaw Warriors scored the game’s final five goals as they rallied to defeat the Tips 5-2 Tuesday night.
Everett led 2-0 thanks to two goals early in the second period. But it was all Moose Jaw after that. Tuesday’s blown lead came three days after the Tips blew a 3-1 second-period lead before losing 4-3 at Regina.
Torrin White had two goals and two assists to lead Moose Jaw (5-4-0-1). Morgan Rielly, Jordan Wyton and Brayden Point also scored for the Warriors, while Justin Paulic picked up the win in goal with 21 saves.
Three of Moose Jaw’s goals came on the power play as the Warriors received seven advantages to four for the Tips. Penalties have been an issue for the Tips all season long. Everett, for the season, has received 40 power plays and been short-handed 60 times.
Landon Oslanski and Ryan Murray scored for Everett (2-7-0-1), which dropped to 1-2 on its six-game swing through the WHL’s East Division. Daniel Cotton finished with 28 saves in net for the Tips.
Everett played without enforcer Lucas Grayson. The winger was suspended by the league for five games for his checking-to-the-head major penalty taken against Regina on Saturday.
There were no goals and few scoring chances in the first period. Everett then jumped out to a two-goal lead early in the second. Oslanski opened the scoring 44 seconds in when his wrister from the point found its way through traffic and past Paulic moments after a scramble in front. The Tips made it 2-0 on the power play at 2:04 on Murray’s slapper from the point.
But Everett again couldn’t hold the lead. Rielly got Moose Jaw on the board on the power play at 11:07 when his centering feed deflected off Oslanski and past Cotton. Then the Warriors tied it at 16:45 when a rebound went in off Wyton’s leg.
Moose Jaw then dominated the third period to win it. White gave the Warriors the lead with a rebound goal on the power play at 5:21. Point added a rebound goal at 11:13, and White scored again with a rebound on the power play at 15:23 to complete the scoring.
