SPOKANE – Dubbing them “Road Warriors” might be going a bit too far, but the Everett Silvertips wrapped up a successful road trip with a 2-0 Western Hockey League triumph over the Spokane Chiefs on Friday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The Silvertips return home for a rematch with Spokane at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at the Everett Events Center, their first home game in more than two weeks.
Defenseman Mitch Love scored in the first period and left wing Jeff Schmidt had a goal in the third stanza of the U.S. Division matchup. Both scores came on the power play for the Tips, who improved to 8-8-3-1 and finished their six-game road trip 3-2-0-1.
Defenseman Ivan Baranka assisted on Love’s goal, and defenseman Devin Wilson and forward Martin Ruzicka tallied assists on Schmidt’s score.
Everett goalkeeper Jeff Harvey made 21 saves to earn his first shutout of the season.
Everett generated 20 shots-on-goal and went 2-for-4 on power-play opportunities, while Spokane (10-7-0-4) was 0-for-4 on the power play.
