Silvertips fall 3-1 to Regina

REGINA, Saskatchewan — The Everett Silvertips had arguably their biggest win of the season Tuesday night. But Wednesday night they had their letdown.

Everett never got going Wednesday as they fell 3-1 to a decimated Regina Pats team.

The Tips came into the game on a roll. They won each of their first three games of their six-game swing through the WHL’s East Division, including a big 5-0 victory at Eastern Conference-leading Brandon on Tuesday. Everett then was facing a Regina team that just traded away its top four players and was also without its No. 1 goaltender because of injury.

But Pats backup netminder Tyler Brown played a solid game in net for Regina, making 25 saves to pick up the win.

Braden Christoffer, Pavel Padakin and Jesse Gabrielle scored the goals for Regina (25-12-2-1).

Nikita Scherbak scored the lone goal for Everett (24-12-3-1). Austin Lotz finished with 32 saves in net for the Tips.

Regina broke the ice on the power play 10 minutes, 29 seconds into the game as Christoffer put home a rebound.

Everett wasted little time tying it up as at 13:05 Scherbak fired a shot past Brown straight off a faceoff win to make it 1-1.

The Pats took control of the game in the second period, outshooting Everett 18-6, and Regina regained the lead at 16:54. The Tips turned the puck over in their own zone, giving Padakin the chance to score on a rebound and make it 2-1.

Everett tried to press for the tying goal in the third period, turing the shot totals around. But the Pats received the killer third goal with 6:42 remaining. Regina broke two-on-one, with Gabrielle taking the shot himself, and he beat Lotz to make it 3-1.

The Tips nearly got right back into in on the next shift, but Ivan Nikolishin hit the post square, and Everett wasn’t able to generate any more quality scoring chances.
