LANGLEY, B.C. — Orrin Centazzo’s hat trick wasn’t enough as the Vancouver Giants stormed back with three unanswered goals in the final 12 minutes to defeat the Everett Silvertips 5-4 Sunday evening in a preseason hockey game at Langley Events Centre.
Alex Kannok Leipert scored the game-winner for the Giants with just eight seconds to play in regulation thanks to assists from James Malm and Milos Roman. It capped a furious Vancouver comeback in the final period that saw Malm score at 8:19 and Aidan Barfoot draw the Giants even at 15:47.
Martin Fasko-Rudas opened the scoring for Everett at 10:45 in the first. The Slovakian-born forward finished with four points as he assisted on the other three Tips goals.
Austin King-Cunningham evened the game for Vancouver at 18:43 in the first, but Centazzo put the Tips ahead once again just 31 seconds into the second period.
Owen Hardy drew the Giants even once more before Centazzo scored at 7:14 in the second and 31 seconds into the third to push Everett’s lead to 4-2.
Riley Sutter added two assists in a losing effort for Everett, which slipped to 3-2 in the preseason. Danton Belluk got the start in goal for the Tips and recorded 23 saves on 27 shots.
Malm and Kannok Leipert each had a goal and an assist for Vancouver, and Roman and Jack Flaman each had two assists.
The Tips conclude their preseason schedule Friday and Saturday with a home-and-home series against the Seattle Thunderbirds.
